Who We Are
E.S.S.E.N.C.E. provides workshops and classes that enhance and build youth and young adults individually and collectively. As we work with families and communities offering parents’ night out, cultural field trips, family game nights, and academic tutoring, we have seen positive results. Grade acceleration, passing academic state exams, family cohesiveness, and social development are just a few ways of assessing our success.
Many young people make choices that they feel are unforgivable. However, E.S.S.E.N.C.E. is committed to reforming them through educational skills, self-esteem building, career training, and self-care. Leaving many with criminal backgrounds, parents prematurely, and traumatizing experiences, causing them to believe that all hope is gone. Often these experiences follow them through life, preventing them from gainful employment, and fair housing opportunities, thus creating a vicious cycle of challenges that will persist, without intervention.
E.S.S.E.N.C.E. is committed to opening doors for young people by helping them receive remedial courses in reading, career training, and guidance through mentorship. Every youth has the right to gainful employment, fair housing, substantial self-esteem, and a better life.
Our Founder/Director
Tamesha Adejumobi, has always had a passion for studying the emotional, social, and psychological development of human behavior. Growing up on Chicago’s Southside she witnessed communities in need of economic support, academic growth, and social intervention. This encouraged her to pursue a Bachelor’s in Psychology, a Master’s in Health Science with a focus on addiction studies and mental health. After many years of counseling, she decided to embark upon a new journey through education, obtaining her teacher’s certification in Special Education and Health Science. Recently she has decided to take all that she’s learned to establish and found E.S.S.E.N.C.E. Community Services to provide a more personal and hands-on approach to youth excellence.
